March 16, 2008 – My Shadow Got Hit By A Truck

Standing by the side of the road, shooting the scenery towards the sun; every time a car would go by I’d feel a disturbance in the force. Turning to see what it was, I witnessed scenes like this.

December 28, 2007 – Ano Nuevo State Park

We visited Ano Nuevo State Park today to see the elephant seals. The Coast Guard used to operate this light house on Ano Nuevo Island, which is now deserted. Plenty of elephant seals on the foreground beach.

This was the first time I’ve been up to the Stanford Dish, despite living here for 30 years. It was rainy today, but the sky broke and I headed up hoping to get good light.

December 2, 2007 – Natural Arch

36°56’58.51″N 122° 3’27.28″W
Taken during a Palo Alto Camera Club field trip to Natural Bridges State Park near Santa Cruz, CA. In the foreground is a seaweed root ball washed up on the beach. Though it was almost noon, the sun remains low in the sky.

This was a tough picture to get the right exposure on because I was shooting directly into the sun and the arch was in shadow. I shot it in RAW mode and was able to coax out the details in Lightroom.

November 23, 2007 – Old Barn and Oak

The morning light did wonderful things to this view. I love the moss on the giant oak tree.

37°22’5.85″N 122°13’14.73″W
The corner fencepost of an abandoned corral in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. I was actually more interested in the great clouds we had today.

November 1, 2007 – Russian Ridge Mountain Bike

37°19’39.88″N 122°12’40.71″W
Riding along Russian Ridge this afternoon. I attached my small camera to the bike using a small tripod and velcro, then set the time delay and took off.

37°18’53.84″N 122°11’16.63″W
A large corrugated pipe is used for a tunnel that leads to Alpine Pond. Today was a beautiful California “fall” day.

October 26, 2007 – San Gregorio Beach

37°19’21.24″N 122°24’12.58″W
San Gregorio Beach collects a lot of driftwood. On any given day you can find a number of interesting structures and sculptures that visitors build. Though this one is relatively simple, I like its weight and real shelter quality.
