November 30, 2007 – Theo Scar Site?

So this is really just a funny story. Sarah was googling our family and found a page that mentioned me and my PDI partners, Glenn and Richard. She showed me the page and I asked her what the site was. She squinted at the screen and said “Theo scar site?”

I checked it out to figure out why a site like that would mention us. Then we just cracked up for the next ten minutes.

A subset of my son’s archive of used drumsticks. He’s kinda rough on them.

“Crouching Spider” is a sculpture by Louise Bourgeois currently on display by the Ferry Building on the San Francisco waterfront. You can get some feeling for the scale of the piece from the photo, but it is quite stunning to stand next to it and be eye to eyes with a metallic arachnoid.

November 27, 2007 – Banana Slugfest

I rode my bike in the El Corte De Madera Creek Open Space Preserve this morning. This is the first time I’ve been there. The biggest obstacle on the trails were the banana slugs, out for strolls in the cool morning air. If you’ve never seen one before, they’re about 6″ long and bright yellow – pretty hard to miss (especially with a bike).

For the whole rest of the day I’ve had Raffi’s “Banana Phone” song playing in my head, except replace ‘phone’ with ‘slug’.

November 25, 2007 – Why Deer Don’t Dance

While hiking with Sarah this morning in Arastradero Preserve we came across this deer carcass. It was surprisingly complete – missing only the front legs and lower jaw. One of the missing legs was about ten feet away.

It has been there at least a month, as I found another picture of it on Flickr taken on October 27th, in about the same state.

November 24, 2007 – Two Boys and Their Dog

Eric is home for Thanksgiving, so this weekend is our only chance for the annual Xmas photo. Not to spoil the surprise for those of you who we mail this to, but here it is.

Shot in Sharon Hill Park, natural light with the sun low in the sky. A minor crop and a small bit of retouching to remove some pesky branches, otherwise as shot.

November 23, 2007 – Old Barn and Oak

The morning light did wonderful things to this view. I love the moss on the giant oak tree.

November 22, 2007 – Old Barn Interior

Happy Thanksgiving!
These old bottles, valve and hinge live in an unused barn on my sister’s ranch. It’s a great place to explore both for grand vistas and more intimate scenes like this one.

November 21, 2007 – Dishes

Dishes on the shelves at my sister’s ranch. We’re up for a few days over Thanksgiving.
