June 30, 2008 – Final Countdown

Nine pictures left on my year long Picture A Day project.

Strobist info about this shot: I worked to get the reflections on the buttons to look nice here. Hard flash (Vivitar 285HV) camera right at 1/16 power for the highlight. A 2×3′ sheet of white foamcore just above the timer for a soft light source. If you look on the buttons you can see exactly those reflections. I moved the flash around until I got the highlight where I wanted it. I got the Mac-like glassy button look I was going for. The background is smoky plexiglas over black matte board.

June 29, 2008 – A Touch of Gray – Okay, White

I’m blessed with having blonde hair that doesn’t show any gray, so occasionally I’ll quit shaving for awhile to see what’s going on. This is a bit over a week, and man there’s a lot of white in there! It felt refreshing to shave it all off.

(BTW, I upload all my pictures at their full resolution. This one was shot with my Canon 100mm Macro. I don’t recommend looking at the full res picture – it’s kinda gross seeing whiskers that close!)

June 28, 2008 – F18 – Protecting America

We went to the South Lake Tahoe airshow today. It’s a small airshow, but there were some interesting planes there.

Always on duty, this F18 kept busy protecting citizens and visitors alike.

June 27, 2008 – Yea, Me!

My birthday is actually on the 28th, but we celebrated a day early this year so that we could be with all our friends at camp.

We’ve been going to Stanford Sierra Camp for 14 years now, and my birthday has fallen in that week every time. It’s the perfect way to be with friends and forget you’re getting older.

June 26, 2008 – Morning Warm Up

7AM, and things are quite for the moment. It’s a beautiful day ahead, and the canoes won’t get much more rest.

June 25, 2008 – Steph Wakeboarding

Our friend Steph out for a wakeboarding run on Fallen Leaf Lake. The lake is really cold, so she’s wearing a drysuit – only her hair will get wet. This run is in the afternoon, so the lake is getting a little windblown and choppy. My son, Eric, is driving her boat, we’re chasing along in ours to take some photos.

June 24, 2008 – Kite’s View of Mt. Tallac Peak

After a 6 mile hike, climbing 3,400 feet we got to the top of Mt. Tallac (9,774 feet). The wind was perfect, and out came my kite and camera. This shot is from the kite looking down at us on the peak.

A view of the peak from Angora Ridge is here.

June 23, 2008 – Milky Way

A crystal clear night in the Sierras. This is a one minute exposure with minor processing in Lightroom.

June 22, 2008 – Angora Ridge View

Another view of the lake, this one from Angora Ridge as we were hiking up. The wildflowers are abundant this year – the foreground features Mule Ears which are everywhere.

June 21, 2008 – Fallen Leaf Lake

A beautiful lake next to Lake Tahoe, we spend a week here each year at Stanford Sierra Camp.
