Ignoring who was born or died on my birthday, here&#8217;s some of the highlights for June 28, 1957:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anirama.com\/testblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/elvis_lou_and_jane.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[38]\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anirama.com\/testblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/elvis_lou_and_jane.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"elvis_lou_and_jane\" width=\"150\" height=\"210\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-105\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elvis-collectors.com\/candid-central\/central50s.html\"> Elvis<\/a> was hanging out with Lou Costello and Jane Russell.<\/p>\n<p>It was Harry and Bess Truman&#8217;s 38th anniversary, and he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trumanlibrary.org\/bessltr.htm#1957\">wrote her a note<\/a> with a comment for each year, and was looking forward to their Diamond Jubilee in 37 more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theislamiccenter.com\/history.html\">The Islamic Center<\/a> of Washington D.C. was dedicated with a speech by Dwight D. Eisenhower (then President). Ike also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eisenhowermemorial.org\/presidential-papers\/second-term\/documents\/222.cfm\">wrote a letter to Winston Churchill<\/a> thanking him for agreeing to an exhibition of Churchill&#8217;s paintings in the US and also thanking him for the gift of an original painting.<\/p>\n<p>Paris, Illinois had a record year of rainfall in 1957, totalling 61.6&#8243;. 16% of that came on June 28th, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crh.noaa.gov\/ilx\/trivia\/juntriv.php\">a standing record of 10.2&#8243;<\/a>. Geez.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ocid.nacse.org\/cgi-bin\/qml\/tfdd\/treaties.qml?qml_screen=full&#038;TN=378\">Finland and Norway<\/a> agreed on building a bridge across a transboundry river.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseballlibrary.com\/baseballlibrary\/chronology\/1957JUNE.stm\">baseball<\/a> (because they keep track of everything)&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin-right: 0px\"><p><strong>IN THE NEWS<\/strong>:<span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\"> By stuffing the ballot box, Cincinnati fans elect 8 Redlegs as starters in the <\/span><a href=\"\/baseballlibrary\/ballplayers\/A\/All_Star_Game.stm\"><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">All-Star Game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">. Over protests from Reds fans, Commissioner <\/span><a href=\"\/baseballlibrary\/ballplayers\/F\/Frick_Ford.stm\"><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">Ford Frick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\"> names <\/span><a href=\"\/baseballlibrary\/ballplayers\/M\/Musial_Stan.stm\"><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">Stan Musial<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">, <\/span><a href=\"\/baseballlibrary\/ballplayers\/M\/Mays_Willie.stm\"><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">Willie Mays<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">, and <\/span><a href=\"\/baseballlibrary\/ballplayers\/A\/Aaron_Hank.stm\"><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">Hank Aaron<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\"> to replace Reds <\/span><a href=\"\/baseballlibrary\/ballplayers\/B\/Bell_Gus.stm\"><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">Gus Bell<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">, <\/span><a href=\"\/baseballlibrary\/ballplayers\/C\/Crowe_George.stm\"><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">George Crowe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">, and <\/span><a href=\"\/baseballlibrary\/ballplayers\/P\/Post_Wally.stm\"><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">Wally Post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\"> in the starting lineup. In the final vote tally, Musial is the only non-Redleg who would have started. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And hey, two triple plays!<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin-right: 0px\"><p>Ponca City and Greenville (Sooner State League) turn triple plays in successive half innings. Greenville turns theirs in the bottom of the first, while Ponca City follows with one in the top half of the 2nd.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.enquirer.com\/century\/loc_cincinnatis_century6.html\">Cincinatti is approved for a Nike Missle installation<\/a>. I guess that&#8217;s what they get for stuffing the All Star ballot boxes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stanford.edu\/group\/King\/\/publications\/papers\/vol4\/570628-001-Spingarn_Speech.htm\">Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/a> was awarded the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP for high and noble achievement and his courage and commitment to nonviolence. Some sources report that Osama bin Laden was also born on that day. (This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stariq.com\/Main\/Articles\/P0002944.htm\">source<\/a> being an astrology site.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anirama.com\/testblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/annabelle_johnson.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[38]\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anirama.com\/testblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/annabelle_johnson.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"annabelle_johnson\" width=\"200\" height=\"265\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-108\" \/><\/a> It was a dull, warm day for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidblaikie.com\/annabelle_johnson\/annabelle_johnson_1957.htm\">Annabelle Johnson<\/a> (left). She baked a cake.<\/p>\n<p>Due to a power circuit failure, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aracnet.com\/~histgaz\/atomi\/diabpr.htm\">&#8220;non-detonation&#8221; of a nuke named Diablo<\/a> occured at a Nevada Test Site. The lucky Marines stationed in the forward trenches got a reprieve until <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aracnet.com\/~histgaz\/atomi\/diab1pr.htm\">July 15th<\/a> before being irradiated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/users.bestweb.net\/~rg\/execution\/regional_studies_south.htm\">Maryland started gassing people<\/a> instead of hanging them.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, in honor of this being Tax Day, while I was being birthed in California, <a href=\"http:\/\/library.usask.ca\/native\/cnlc\/vol05\/483.html\">judgement was delivered<\/a> against a Native American in Canada who was arguing that he didn&#8217;t have to pay income taxes because he was an Indian. The argument against him went like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin-right: 0px\"><p>&#8220;The accused, on the evidence, is an Indian within the meaning of the <em>Indian Act<\/em>, RSC, 1952, ch. 149, and being an Indian is a person (definition <em>Indian Act<\/em>, sec. 2 [1] [<em>g<\/em>] ) and being a person is subject to the application of sec. 44 (2) of the <em>Income Tax Act<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The accused also argued that, though he was supposed to file a &#8220;prescribed form&#8221;, there was no evidence that the offical tax form T.1 was in prescribed form. And finally, he argued that the &#8220;terms of Union&#8221; between British Columbia and Canada didn&#8217;t include him.
