How Not To Do A Dipped Cone

We went to Fosters Freeze today to satisfy my craving for a chocolate dipped soft serve, only to find out THEY WERE CLOSED TODAY! On a Sunday! We then headed over to 31 Flavors, which I normally like. The guy behind the counter warned me not to get dipped ice cream on a cone, but [...]

Animation Show of Shows

Ron Diamond of Acme FilmWorks brought his Animation Show of Shows to Electronic Arts today. The 85 minute show included 11 different shorts, plus a Q&A session with two of the directors afterward. Koji Yamamura (left) directed "Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor", and Alexi Alexeev (center) directed the (very) short "KJFG #5." Ron Diamond is [...]

Belly Bomb

I got no sleep last night - zip, zero, nada. Don't know why, my brain just wouldn't turn off. So I'm not quite sure why I thought it would be a good idea to eat this for breakfast - I blame my foggy state. Taken at Porto's Bakery in Burbank, which I love. This is [...]

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

I know, I know, I'm late to this party. But I really didn't want to spent $5 to buy it on iTunes. Turns out you can stream Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog from Hulu. Thanks Hulu! If you're a Neil Patrick Harris fan (like me), or a Joss Whedon fan (like these people), or in search [...]

My Extended Family

Four generations, all decendents of Nels and Lizzy, my Great Grandparents. If my Grandparents were still alive, five generations would be represented here. My farthest away relative at the event was a second cousin twice removed (and yes, I actually know what that means!). Taken on Saturday at our family reunion in Newberg, Oregon.

A Little Bathroom Music

(It's a video - click on it to play.) I was planning to shoot a video similar to this with sounds from my car, but it will be weeks before I'm home long enough and have the time to do it. Meanwhile I'm sitting in LA watching the Olympics on TV and wishing I could [...]

DreamWorks Educators’ Symposium

I spent Monday at DreamWorks' Glendale campus as a part of their Educators' Symposium. It was fun to be back on campus - this time as an invited teacher, which made it rather unique. Alex McDowell gave an in depth talk about design for live action and animated features in the digital age, including examples [...]

A Visual Dialog Between Father and Son

On Saturday, Eric and Kevin went to the Ferrari Challenge event at Laguna Seca Raceway. I'm guessing at Kevin's motives here, but I'm pretty sure he was just trying to rub in what fun they were having without me: I received this video message from his phone to mine, titled "hehehehehehehehehe": I couldn't let that [...]

Comcast More Reliable Than Google Today? What?

My Comcast connection is evidently screaming fast today. I checked my speed because my gmail account was incredibly slow, and of course it must be Comcast and not Google, right? Turns out I'm getting this from Google: Gmail by Google Temporary Error (502) We're sorry, but your Gmail account is currently experiencing errors. You won't [...]
