If you ever visit Monrovia Canyon Park, be sure to grab their "Top 10 Birds of Monrovia Canyon Park" handout. My Acorn Woodpecker photograph was used in it. Yea Monrovia!

Eye of Sauron Another demo from our CMU ETC team working with the Magic Planet display. The Eye of Sauron will follow you around the room - it's pretty creepy. Details on the lighting: The high rim light came from overhead spot lights in the high ceiling, which also created the nice spills on the [...]
I enjoyed getting out and shooting again today. I visited the baylands in Redwood Shores and mostly photographed the birds, and though I wasn't thrilled with any of the final shots I think I learned a lot about how to do better next time. Afterwards, I wanted to do some macro-photography and walked along the [...]
I took this last month when I was in Pittsburgh. I have no idea what it means, though you have to assume that the person wouldn't have gone to the effort if he didn't think it was good advice. I'm going to go with him on this one.
The Jagalchi Fish Market is a (the?) major wholesale fish market in Busan, South Korea. We visited in the evening, and the streets were lined with stalls of fresh fish, shellfish, and, well, other things. When we visited again after dinner a couple of hours later the fish were all being packed up into Styrofoam [...]
Harter Ryan from Microsoft's Ensemble Studios gave the opening keynote speech at ICON2008. Kudos to Harter for not using a single bullet point in his presentation (a tenet I believe in wholeheartedly, but violated myself this time). Here he's silhouetted in front of an image of a large crowd as he discussed the potential size [...]
This blog post from smashingmagazine.com showed up on page 1 of digg's images (with 1413 diggs as of right now). My Tumbling Dice picture is #37 of the 45 examples. Just today it got over 2500 views on Flickr. Sweet! The blurb on digg: "Motion blur is frequently used to show a sense of speed. [...]
Summer Vacation is officially over. Today was our first day of the fall semester for our remote outpost of Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center, or ETC-SV (for Silicon Valley). This group shot is of the students, plus Jiyoung and me (faculty) and Michelle (staff) in front of the EA logo in Redwood Shores. [...]
Eric stumbled upon how to take pictures like this while we were walking inside a covered bridge in Yosemite. It's as simple as taking a long exposure (about 1/2 second) while walking - the space between the vertical boards allow slits of light to be painted on the camera's sensor. Eric and I each shot [...]
School starts next week for all of us and our floors at home are getting refinished; both great reasons to head out for an (almost) last trip of the summer. We had heard about how beautiful Bass Lake is, so we headed out to spend a few days there. Since we were in the area [...]
