Fallen Leaf Lake, Part 1

A few sets of pictures from Stanford Sierra Camp this year on Fallen Leaf Lake (near Lake Tahoe, California). We spend a lot of time on the lake wakeboarding, innertubing, fishing and just messing around. These are a couple of my favorite shots from on the water. Kevin wakeboarding - more air every year. This [...]

Airship Ventures – Zeppelin

I had the pleasure yesterday of flying in the Airship Eureka – one of the few commercially flown Zeppelins in the world. The trip was organized by Steve Jurvetson for Airship Ventures to help set a course for a geeks air-tour of Silicon Valley. Stanford, Seen Through The Window Bon Voyage – Photo by Steve [...]

Diorama on Anirama

Suddenly my blog is becoming a travelog of cool museums. Last week I was in Pittsburgh and spent an afternoon at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History - recommended because of their great dinosaur exhibit. It's worth the trip there just for that, but I found myself pulled into the dioramas on North American mammals. [...]

California Academy of Sciences

Don Marinelli and I spent last Tuesday afternoon at the California Academy of Sciences, getting a behind-the-scenes tour of the building, the planetarium, and the aquarium. If you haven't been there before, you need to go. Now. Four of my favorite shots: Portholes on the Roof (learn about the living roof here) God Rays in [...]

Dog and Coconut Vendor

This image was awarded First Place tonight in the Travel category at the Palo Alto Camera Club. I've been a member for about a year and a half, and this is the first time I've gotten a First Place award. I will now admit, it felt really good.

Blurb Book From Our Costa Rica Trip

Today I received my Blurb book that I put together from our Costa Rica trip. It looks great. It's 50 pages long with enough text and captions to explain the trip and images, but it's mostly a photo book. Even though I had most of the text already written (from the blog) and [...]

A Clear Day in LA

Flying into Los Angeles on an extremely clear day. The distant mountains are at least 50 miles away. When I grew up in LA (the 60's and 70's) we had over 120 Stage 1 Smog Alerts per year - that meant that you shouldn't play outside and you needed to curtail any unnecessary driving. At [...]

Costa Rica Trip

It isn't that I haven't been blogging lately, it's that I have been blogging HERE. Instead I've been blogging here. We spent 10 wonderful days in Costa Rica touring the country. I took over 1500 photographs, all geotagged via a GPS I carried along. I also kept a journal of the trip. Then I spent [...]

Baylands Photos

I enjoyed getting out and shooting again today. I visited the baylands in Redwood Shores and mostly photographed the birds, and though I wasn't thrilled with any of the final shots I think I learned a lot about how to do better next time. Afterwards, I wanted to do some macro-photography and walked along the [...]

Do Not Follow Bird

I took this last month when I was in Pittsburgh. I have no idea what it means, though you have to assume that the person wouldn't have gone to the effort if he didn't think it was good advice. I'm going to go with him on this one.
