California Academy of Sciences - Another Trip

We took a family trip back up to the Academy. We didn’t get there early enough to get tickets for the Planetarium show, but we did manage to fit in most of the other sections (the Rain Forest, Aquarium, Africa Hall, etc.). My favorite shots from this trip are below, and you can see all [...]

Sunrise, Fallen Leaf Lake

Early morning boat cruise on the lake. About a dozen of us climbed aboard the camp’s party boat to watch the sunrise from on the water. From the middle of the lake, looking southwest If you know the area, Mt. Tallac is the peak on the right side of the image. The sun has just [...]

Charity Valley Flowers

A number of us from Stanford Sierra Camp went on a nature hike in Charity Valley. The timing worked out great, the hills seemed to be in full bloom. I spent the first half of the hike squatting to take pictures then running to catch up, but I think it was worth it. Asters Larkspur [...]

Fallen Leaf Lake, Part 1

A few sets of pictures from Stanford Sierra Camp this year on Fallen Leaf Lake (near Lake Tahoe, California). We spend a lot of time on the lake wakeboarding, innertubing, fishing and just messing around. These are a couple of my favorite shots from on the water. Kevin wakeboarding – more air every year. This [...]

The trip was organized by Steve Jurvetson for Airship Ventures to help set a course for a geeks air-tour of Silicon Valley. Stanford, Seen Through The Window Bon Voyage – Photo by Steve [...]

Diorama on Anirama

Suddenly my blog is becoming a travelog of cool museums. Last week I was in Pittsburgh and spent an afternoon at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History – recommended because of their great dinosaur exhibit. It’s worth the trip there just for that, but I found myself pulled into the dioramas on North American mammals. [...]

California Academy of Sciences

Don Marinelli and I spent last Tuesday afternoon at the California Academy of Sciences, getting a behind-the-scenes tour of the building, the planetarium, and the aquarium. If you haven’t been there before, you need to go. Now. Four of my favorite shots: Portholes on the Roof (learn about the living roof here) God Rays in [...]

Dog and Coconut Vendor

This image was awarded First Place tonight in the Travel category at the Palo Alto Camera Club. I’ve been a member for about a year and a half, and this is the first time I’ve gotten a First Place award. I will now admit, it felt really good.
