Bandelier National Monument

This is a "kiva." A large stone-lined hole in the ground, it had a roof over the top and was used primarily for ceremonies.

A view looking down on the ruins of  Tyuonyi, the town in the valley. It was made up of hundreds of tiny rooms. Archeologists guess that it was three stories tall in places. The rooms had no doors, the entrances were via holes in the roofs - to get in you had to climb a ladder to the roof, and then climb down ladders into the rooms.

A ground level view of the village's remains.

Looking up at the cliffs, you can see the caves and a replica of a house built on the ground as an extension to the caves.

At first glance this looks like a bunch of holes in the cliff, but if you look closer you can see people, stairs and ladders.
